Managing Category Images from a User Field

This article will guide you through managing your category images.

Step 1: Locate the category images folder. In the example below the category images folder is set-up here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ostendo\Images\pvf\category images

Step 2: Insert category images into the category images folder

You can now set-up some category images in this folder. Make sure your images are in either jpg format and keep the size under 400px wide and high. Category images generally don't have to be too large as the customer will usually click on them to go through to the next category level or product list.

A good naming convention is to name the image the same name as the category or sub-category that it's for. For example, to load an image for a sub category of 'Pipes Valves Fittings', such as 'Gal Steel Fittings', the image should be called 'Pipes Valves Fittings_Gal Steel Fittings.jpg'. This makes it easy to manage updates or changes to your category images.

However you can name the images anything you like as long as the name is unique (no other category image has that name).

Step 3: Create a reference to the category image

The final step in the category image set-up process is to reference the category image in the CMS. The category tree can be found in the CMS sidebar under the 'Products/Categories' menu.

Click on 'Categories and locate the category or sub-category that now has an image in the category image folder.

Scroll down to the User Fields and enter the name of the category image into the image field. Make sure that the name you enter here matches the name of the category image in the category image folder. It MUST be exactly the same and is case sensitive. Note that you do not need to enter the file extension here.

Once you have done this, run a sync and you images will be updated on the site.
